Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio
3.0
If We Were Villains is an all-timer for me, so I have to say this was kind of disappointing. A perfectly fine story, but Rio's writing doesn't feel as sharp and the characters are all pretty thin archetypes, some to the point of being downright annoying (cough Hannah cough). It feels like a novella that wants to be a novel. But I don't think fleshing out would have done much for me because plot wise, I think it's mostly trying to do a lot of what T. Kingfisher's "What Moves the Dead" already did better.
So overall, worth the read, but I'll still be (excitedly!) waiting for her next full novel
