I really wanted to love this book based on reviews and personal recommendations but for me three stars is generous. I was so close to not finishing the book early on but pushed through. The book felt like more than 12 days occurred. I mostly enjoyed when the author was describing scenery as the images were so vivid.
I was underwhelmed by the character development of most of the characters. The hurricane and surviving characters he aftermath felt like an after thought and tidy way to pull the family together. There seemed to be so much unsaid about the pregnancy, Big Henry, how Randall felt about being the one driving the tractor when the accident happened etc.
This book left me feeling like I wanted more and not in a good way.
