I love Portia's 'quality of mercy' speech, but this isn't my favorite of Shakespeare's plays. I know the arguments on both side, but I still feel a little uncomfortable at the anti-Semitic portrayal of Shylock. I'm not insisting that Shakespeare himself was an anti-Semite, but I just don't love this play.
