The Lost Symbol
by Dan Brown
Well, I have to admit, Brown keeps me reading. On the other hand, his formula and sermons are getting old. Having read every one of his books, I am hoping his next book is more along the lines of [b:Digital Fortress|11125|Digital Fortress|Dan Brown|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21XVTXS129L._SL75_.jpg|40195]. No religious references or sermons. Well...sermons about ecology, but those are more palatable. I DID learn a lot about freemasons, but I think I prefer Alan Moore's approach to them. Brown seems in just a little too much awe.
My friend read this, after BUYING it, and said she wished she could go back in time and punch herself in the eye for doing it. I can't say I feel that strongly about it, but I am infinitely happy I borrowed it from the library (FOR FREE!!) rather than forking over the $17 I see it for. I will not read it again, but will probably read his next book with hopes that he ditches the "damsel in distress" saved by Langdon after pages and pages and pages of sermons trying to make me feel like a bigot for thinking some things are weird or even scary. I just want him to write fast paced mysteries that keep me on the edge of my seat. I know he can do it! (I sure hope he's listening)
