This book did not start off in the most intriguing way but there was a fire and no one knew exactly how or why it happened so it seemed to be a mystery and who doesn’t like a mystery?
But this book was no mystery. It was endless thought processes. Actually, it was a lot of thought processes!! It would switch from one persons thought to another. Sometimes it would be in the same paragraph and that would be off putting to me because I would have to re-orient myself to what was going on. I wasn’t a fan of the format. I like to stay in one pov per chapter even if the story offers several povs. That is probably my only complaint.
Truth be told, it was more than a mystery. It touched on so many themes (and my emotions!) Parenthood. Motherhood. Death. Adoption. Abortion. Pregnancy. Surrogacy. Sex. Relationships. Wealth. Poverty. Race. Purpose. Politics. Friendship. Love. Abandonment. Freedom.
My heart aches at the ending. I wish we got a glimpse of when Lexi tells her mom the truth. So much miscommunication going on it’s scary but I’d like to say this book was life in a nutshell. I’m literally blown away. The slow burn nature of it all really pulled me in. I’d recommend this book 100%!!!
