Bitter Sweet Love
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I absolutely love this novella! Dez gets his moment to shine and really becomes his own. I read this after the rest of the Dark Elements series do I already felt a lot of affection towards the character, but it easily could have gone before. It doesn’t spoil anything for the series. You do catch a few glimpses of the other characters, but not enough to form real opinions on them.
Jasmine is such a power character and the rules of the society that she’s in tells her she can’t be and why a load of crap that is. She thinks so, too. This story follows her facing how to deal with that, while also dealing with how to be in love. I absolutely adore her strong will and tenacity throughout the whole thing. I love how Dez is willing to do just about anything for her while he also wars with how to view society. I love the shenanigans that they get into together and how they explore every day things like learning to drive in such a super and supernatural way (they are gargoyles after all...) while still being so real and down to earth. Another win of a book for JLA!
