Faking Christmas by Cindy Steel

4.0

The author does have a content warning page: Dealing with grief from the passing of loved ones, one is due to cancer and another is a sudden accidental death. There are also a couple minor innuendos sprinkled throughout and almost getting stuck in a blizzard.

This is probably one of the best Christmas romances I’ve read. While I would’ve liked to have read a bit more about some of the Christmas events, it was just really heartfelt and I think I needed some of that during the season. I also loved that it took place in Vermont! My boyfriend is from New Hampshire so it just felt really close to me.

In the beginning, I think Olive misunderstands when Miles is trying to be helpful to her or others. But he doesn’t really go about it in the best way either since he wants to break down her fake facade. As someone who also puts on a fake show most of the time, I really liked seeing Miles break down Olive’s walls. There were some things that bothered me, mostly when he really pushed her out of her comfort zone after she said no a lot. Also his teasing went a little too far sometimes. But I think as the story went on, he started to slowly drop the silly act and show more compassion towards Olive as she started to open up. I loved that he was playing for keeps too!

Overall I cried a lot and most of it was very healing. Now I just need a sequel novella from Miles POV. I know we got a mini bonus chapter, but I need more of his thought process throughout the book!
