Last Girls by Demetra Brodsky

3.5

This book was not at all what I expected - and I was pleasantly surprised by that. And it's one that I'm finding really hard to rate. Personally, I'm not a fan of doomsday preppers. I don't understand their extreme mindsets and so it was really hard for me to connect with Honey throughout the book. She's also very abrasive and pushes people away, so she didn't make it easy.

Last Girls follows three sisters: Honey, Birdie, and Blue. They live on a compound of preppers and live by a very rigid set of rules. All at once, it seems like those rules go out the window and Honey is left trying to put all the pieces together while protecting her sisters.

This book was like three stories in one and I'll be honest, in the beginning I was a little confused. Especially when it started switching POV's to this Toby person. Over the course of the book, I started putting the pieces together and found myself completely invested in that storyline and was constantly trying to figure out how all the pieces connected. Sadly, I just didn't connect to Honey as much as Toby so for most of the book I was anxiously awaiting Toby's plotline to jump back in.

I will be honest. This book goes in place I was not prepared for. The synopsis hardly gives anything away which I think was a good idea. I went in thinking it was one thing and then suddenly it was much deeper than just preppers. This was my first book by Brodsky but I look forward to more!
