- something that doesn’t much happen to greek women in literature. helene feels relatable even to my modern eyes as a character crafted to feel like a real woman - something that doesn’t happen in any literature really. her morals and values are slightly askew but all point to her deep devotion to her family. she’s not devoted to menelaos because he’s fought wars for her or because he’s a rich man (theokylmenos has done the same) instead her devotion seems to be actual love fostered from their time together before the gods split them up in their war games. I wish there was more talk of helene’s daughter though. she seemed an interesting character from afar.
