Preface: i have never read the other books in this universe and I honestly didn’t know they existed until after i finished.
I felt like this whole universe was fleshed out and despite that it still fell flat for me. I was actually rolling my eyes at how obnoxious and annoying the main character was. It was a struggle to get through the first few chapters because of the writing. Which leads me to the next point, did an editor ever go through this? More than a cursory glance? Because the copy I had was a mess. I hope they cleaned it up in later editions. Several times words would be completely missing from sentences, you knew what should have been there from context but it was still weird to see throughout the book.
I finished the book but I don’t plan on finishing the series. I just don’t care enough.
