The first half of the book was alright. There was backstory for Rosalie and Jasper and the legends for the werewolves.

I hated the second half. I hate Bella, she’s inconsistent and does feel genuine. I thought I like Charlie, but
when his own daughter got sexually assaulted, he congratulated Jacob for doing it. He’s an awful parent. And the more the book goes on, the more incompetent he becomes.
Jacob is by far the worst. Need I explain?
Assaulting Bella and making jokes about it? The manipulation attempt of telling her he was going to intentionally get himself killed if she didn’t choose him. I don’t care the outcome or the goal, it’s not okay to manipulate someone into kissing you, or forcibly kiss someone while they’re literally fighting you off.
Carlisle is still the only redeemable character, and there wasn’t much of him here.

There was finally an explanation for why Alice’s and Jasper’s powers work on Bella but nobody else’s, it’s not convincing. I don’t think the distinction is clear enough for it to be meaningful.
Alice’s power must have a mental component, otherwise the decision making wouldn’t matter. Jasper’s power works on the emotions only because it has physical effects? There are physical-mental feedback for emotions. But that doesn’t feel much different than how Jane’s power works, other than where it starts. Maybe that’s it. I don’t know, but I’m disappointed in the explanation.
