The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

I cheated and skimmed some of the back half; I see why we needed to see Alex in happy happy mode for the ending to pack a punch, but I think this is uneven and I was getting a little bored. It felt very purpose driven for much of the book, which isn't bad, but since I was cramming for Printz potentials, I felt like I had enough to rule this out in my own head and since I didn't really like the experience of reading this one, skimming it was.
That said, I think this is powerful and has a lot to say, some of which I agree with and some of which I don't. I'm maybe more with Peekay's parents vis a vis violence.
And the ending definitely packs a punch, and the denouement is a nice note of grace and hope, but I am also not sure I believe it.
