What Kind of Girl
by Alyssa Sheinmel
what a powerful book.
I don’t really know how to sum up my thoughts better than that. this book hit in places I didn’t even know existed. both the writing and story telling was beautifully handled and the issues raised were so important and prevalent.
I really believe this is a book everyone needs to read - young girls in particular. abuse is never okay, no matter how much someone covers it with saying they love you and this is a message that needs to be widely spread.
this book also deals with self harm/anxiety/bulimia and these issues were addressed very well. I like the structure in how it was told and I felt connected to both maya and junie in their own ways and I’m glad I got to read their stories.
