3.5? I actually loved the footnotes, linguistic notes, and everything for the first 350 pages. But after Canton, it just dropped off for me. I also got pulled out of the story every time a character communicated a modern ideology with modern language and then had an accompanying footnote to explain it to the readers who already knew what was happening. I kinda felt like she was trying to teach us all something rather than tell a story in the end. And I hated the ending.
