Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

5.0

Icebreaker is the story of Anastasia and Nathan. Two people who never dreamed of crossing paths, thrown together when they are forced to share their time at the rink. Anastasia is determined to not let this bump in the road derail her from her ultimate goal: getting her shot as a figure skater for Team USA. Nate is a loyal, hardworking captain who will do anything to ensure that his team is at their absolute best - which means he will make his goal to befriend Anastasia to make this situation work.

This story is full of witty banter, drama, and sexual tension. I am a sucker for a story that can truly capture what dealing with a mental illness is like, and I think Hannah Grace does an exceptional job at showing how quickly things can crumple for someone who deals with severe anxiety like Anastasia. With the dual POV between Nathan and Anastasia, we get to experience both sides of the coin. Someone who constantly needs structure in order to function, and someone who is falling in love with someone who is struggling to deal with everything life is throwing at them.

The banter is this book is top notch. Anastasia has some of the best come backs, and the friendships we see on Nate’s hockey team truly make you fall in love with the side characters. There were times when I was laughing out loud at the comebacks that these people threw around!

With this being an enemies to lovers book, the sexual tension is there from the start. Boy do the sparks fly between these two main characters!! There were some super steamy parts to this book, but I don’t feel like it took away from the plot at all.

The character development that we see is what ultimately made me want to give this book 5 stars. I love a good representation of characters actively working through therapy, and the fact that we get to see how much Anastasia works through and grows from beginning to end made me so happy. The relationship she has between her and Nate is definitely one of my tops of the books I’ve read this year! Overall, this book of enemies to lovers, found family, and forced proximity is one I would definitely recommend!
