This book was not one I was ever planning on reading because the only thing I heard about this book was that it is about the older meat packing industry. Not only am I vegetarian it seemed like a depressing book. I read this book as part of a reading challenge as the bottom book on my to read list and I'm glad I did. Somehow despite the very negative human experiences covered, which by the way is not at all limited to the meat packing industry, it is done is such a way that did not depress me, but rather made me think about the industries today doing very similar things.
