Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison

3.75

3.75 - this was one of the toughest reads i have encountered so far. Bone's story made me feel for all young girls that had to live through this pain and anxiety. on a real level, i am deeply thankful i have never had to experience a living situation this traumatizing. the writing is well thought out, however, i felt as if it slightly began to drag on towards the middle. the last thirty pages had me crying and gritting my teeth - which i feel is not a bad thing. i am not sure if i could casually recommend this to a friend, but i am thankful that i read it.
