The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

5.0

it is always hard for me to review a final book in a series, but even more difficult this time because the winternight trilogy is now one of my favorite series ever.

the writing is phenomenal. arden has a way with words - the way she paints the environment, the way she switches seamlessly between characters, it is all so atmospheric and addicting. its amazing to have so many emotions in the span of 400 pages; heartbreak, thrills, excitement, more heartbreak, anxiety, more heartbreak and sadness etc etc.

i am obsessed with the characters of this story, from vasya to the cheryti, morozko to konstantin, and literally everyone in between. everyone has such depth and purpose, and they are all just so damn interesting. if nothing else, i could just read story after story of all the different russian devils and what they do / who they eat :)

overall it was such a brilliant and heart wrenching novel, and i am so grateful to katherine arden for carving out a piece of my heart and replacing it with the russian winter.
