Emily Climbs by L.M. Montgomery

3.0

I was reading an analysis of LM Montgomery recently and she claims that Emily was her favorite character and the most like her - which made me anxious to revisit these books even though I couldn't remember them very well from my childhood (which is strange since most of Montgomery's books have stuck with me for 20+ years...) But honestly - these books kind of bore me. I think it might be because Montgomery is too close to her main character - but I just find first her letters to her father (with all their spelling errors) and later her journal entries - kind of painful to read. The characters in Emily's world aren't as richly drawn as the surrounding characters in other books, and her journey just isn't as compelling after the tragic death of her father.
