The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

5.0

This book absolutely had a tight grip on me while reading it. Having lived in South Carolina for some time (though many, many years after the point in time of the book) and knowing the general area and how Southern people are, this book hit really well. I'm always skeptical of men writing women and this was my first Hendrix book. I have to say, he did an amazing job portraying the way Southern Women of the late 80's were seen. Usually reading horror doesn't phase me much, but Hendrix did an amazing job with the horror scenes. Not only that, but the horror of having a husband who is actual garbage. While the supernatural aspect was terrifying, there was also the underlying horror of how Carter treated and blamed Patrica for everything as well. This book was really good and I can't wait to make my way through the rest of Hendrix's works.
