Later by Stephen King
4.0
Stephen King's 'Later' was my first dip into the interesting world of Hard Case Crime. It was a fantastic classic crime/thriller with a double dose of Stephen King poured in. King writes from the perspective of a young man that is reminiscient of Ferris Bueller's fourth wall breaks - witty, emotional and raw.
Much like Thumper's sticks of dynamite, the antagonist of this story, 'Later' is a slow and steady burner, resulting in the inevitable explosive ending we know and love from King. There is gritty family drama, a healthy serving of literary gore, unexpected friendships and all from the persepctive of our young protagonist, Jamie Conklin.
This novel is, in my opinion, a a new and interesting light to see the author in and I'm motivated now to pursue his other Hard Case Crime novels 'The Colarado Kid' and 'Joyland'.
