A fun complex world rich in Slavic folklore. During Foul Days, the monsters are out, and in a series of events, Kosara loses her shadow, which can be a dead sentence to a witch. The book takes a moment to pick up, but once Kosara partners with a cop from the "other" side of the wall, we can't put it down. Their partnership is hilarious. They embark on an action adventure, unlikely scenarios, thrilling, mysterious investigation in a very dangerous world with fun characters, humor, and unlikely partnerships. The plot twists closer to the end are fun, and I didn't want this volume to end. I'm happy that there will be a second soon.
There are several encounters with all sorts of demons and ghouls, and the book has a small compendium at the end explaining some of the creatures. I loved Nevena and Button.
The author's style is great. The characters have a great voice. This is one of those books that I usually buy different formats and enjoy the audiobook before the next volume is released. The characters' dialogue is fun.
Thank you, publisher, for the arc.
