Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent
4.75

This was such a beautiful book and it made me love this series even more. I was obsessed with serpent of the wings & night and then I tried reading slaying the vampire conquerer but it didn't hit the same and I had to dnf it. I was scared that this wouldn't be as good, especially considering the length of this book - but oh boy was I wrong. This has an emily wilde type of character and I really loved to see her relationship with the Main mmc, as they are both essentially curious scientific people and study each other learning about the other person. It made there relationship feel really wholesome, nice, and genuine. I loved the setting, the vibes, the overall plot and I honestly would've been fine if this was 100 pages longer. It's something I would love to reread over and over again. I've noticed carissas best work deals with plots that are somewhat straightforward (such as the trials plot in serpent and in this the finding a cure plot) I think her politics are not bad but they aren't as strong as these aspects because she can write stories that encorporate more compelling aspects and make these worlds stand out. In comparison slaying the vampire conquerer and the ashes and the star cursed king  (while i loved this book - I liked it for the characters and my biggest complaint had to do with the plot and how the world felt a bit different and lost that constant danger that was previously shown) and the songbird book (dnfed) aren't as strong. That being said I don't want to leave the series yet and while I skipped past the second duology, I fully intend to read septimuses book - because oh my god it looks sooo good I really hope it is as strong or even stronger than serpernt was!!
