No Regrets, Coyote by John Dufresne

4.0

You will think this is a crime novel, and there's a lot of crime in it, but it is actually a Southern novel. There is a dead mule.

Quite good. A novel that takes place amidst a bunch of crime, but isn't really about crime, so much as about the problem of living with pain and grief, with a lot of humor. I kept mixing up the characters, and it took about three chapters to figure out that it wasn't a crime novel (not spare, kind of overstuffed) but once I caught the rhythm, I really liked it.
