Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
5.0

***UPDATE MAY 5th 2017***
I just realized how few reviews I write and I want to change that.

UPDATE : Y'ALL. I RECOMMEND IT TO ONE OF MY FRIENDS AND IT'S HER NEW FAVORITE BOOK AHSKALAE I LOVE THIS FEELING.

I want to start this off by saying that I can totally see why others wouldn't like this book, but that being said... I LOVED this book.

I know that this may sound stupid and annoying for some people, but the main character being mixed just kind of tethered me to her in a way. I don't know why, but instantly I felt like Maddie is my sister, my bestfriend, a confidant.

I also loved that Yoon didn't use her race as a plot device to bring up a heavy subject centered around social issues. I know how important it is to talk about stuff regarding black people, oppression and so on and so forth. BUT every once in a while it's nice to see a black girl just living (more or less.) Ya know? It's kind of exhausting because some of us have nice, normal lives and I feel like movies, books, tv shows etc. are used soley as a platform for us to talk about the bad things that happen to black people. It's depressing. I wanna see my sista's thriving, laughing and falling in love every once in a while.

The way it was written was so personal and intimate, it truly feels like you're reading a journal and getting a glimpse at someone's true inner workings.

Olly was really a cool and chill guy too and I enjoyed what he brought to the table, but what I will say is that pieces of the romance felt a little unbelievable (I hate using that word when it comes to fiction because it's kind of counterproductive considering fiction means fake) and insta-lovey, which is no bueno.

I quickly got over that though because their conversations and shyness towards each other was just so darn cute! I also feel as though I'm the only one satisfied with the ending... I was actually talking to my dad about this book whilst reading it and he predicted it and I didn't believe him, but it's fine! I'm fine! :'( Also, Maddie has one of the WORST mom's I've ever read about.

I couldn't stand her and she is honestly the villain of this novel and there is nothing that you can do to change my mind about that. I HATED THAT BEEP.

I'm over here writing an essay lmao. I just really enjoyed this book and I'm even making my friend read it right now, but I'm too nervous to ask her how she's liking it. Fun fact! That is one of my worst fears, recommending a book that you love to someone and they hate it.

SIDE NOTE: THE CASTING TO THIS MOVIE IS SPOT ON OKAY.
