Oh, how I adore these books. Reading one, even if it's new to me, is like slipping into comfy jammies and relaxing with old friends.
They're just so well-crafted... the characters are virtuous, but not *too* virtuous... and it's a pleasure to make the journey with them as they learn to overcome their flaws or accept new viewpoints.
Also, why is it that with these books, person-death, while sad, doesn't make me cry, but animal-death has me bawling?? The same happened with the Alanna series.
Every time I finish a new volume I am so very glad I hunted down these particular editions, too: the small hardcover Atheneum editions with covers by Marilee Heyer. I just love it when a cover artist really pays attention to details as set down by the author, and the artwork itself is gorgeous.
I look forward to re-reading these at other times in my life, and expect them to be just as enjoyable then.
