Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
3.0

Oh man, a 2008 werewolf book!! How I have MISSED the days when every paranormal fiction book wasn’t exactly the same.

After the slew of (extremely mixed) virtually self-published werewolf romance books that have swamped kindle unlimited for the last few years, a book like this was so refreshing. Was this high art? No. But it stands out against a currently cheaply written genre crowd for the following reasons:

1) Grounded Stakes:

Cry Wolf is so much smaller in scale compared to 95% of modern books in this genre. The driving stakes were not about bland, generically wealthy, violent characters winning a weird psycho-sexual or social hierarchical status, nor was is about world-ending magical nonsense. It was just a mystery about some wolf killing hikers in Montana. A simplicity godsend
