The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

5.0

I was completely captivated by this book - I could barely put it down, and couldn't wait to get back to it when I had to put it down. Not that it's a seat-of-your-pants thriller, it's not even really a mystery as the title suggests. In fact, the question of who killed Wellington the dog is settled about midway through the book. This is the story of an autistic boy, his world, and the way in which he perceives and navigates our world. Christopher is a complex and interesting character, who narrates the book in his quirky and endearing way. The rest of the main characters - his father, mother, teacher and neighbor are sometimes not as well-drawn as I would have liked, but one must remember we are seeing them through Christopher's eyes. They are all, despite their flaws, likable in their own ways. A quick but satisfying read, highly recommended.
