Malas by Marcela Fuentes
4.0

Malas is such a good book - both main characters are very dramatic, but as someone who grew up on telenovelas, that didn't bother me too much.

Pilar's story starts when she is pregnant with her second child and becomes a study in grief and misplaced anger, through decades of solitude. Lulu is a child of the 90s, dreading her upcoming Quinceanera and in a constant battle with her father. There are errant husbands and punk bands, curses from crazy old women and Selena concerts.

I found both storylines compelling and when the two finally met, it was all about dancing on that knife's edge until a lot of secrets were finally revealed. I enjoyed this a lot.
