Daella, a half-orc has been used as a mercenary for a tyrant emperor. When he sends her on a mission, her ship capsizes and she wakes up on a beach to Rivelin, a grumpy elf blacksmith. He agrees to let her stay with him if she becomes his assistant for the midsummer games, where the prize is a wish granted by the island. They grow closer as they compete in the four tasks together, and soon realize there’s a mystery to solve.

Okay, I think cozy fantasy might be my new favorite genre. I knew going in that I was going to eat my way quickly through this book, then be disappointed it was over so quickly.
l love the writing, the characters, the world building, and the story. I’m not usually one for switching POVs, but I truly didn’t mind it here. I love that you get just enough mystery and just enough action that it’s not boring, but the story never fell into those obnoxious romance tropes.
Plus there’s dragons.
Highly recommend, and look forward to reading Brewed By Magic, the next book set in the same world.
