This book is peak jealousy, I can report that Vuk's title is true to his character. He is THE King of Envy.
This book is very different from King of Sloth despite it being from the same series. KOS is more of a contemporary romance while this extends into the "morally gray romance."
Ayana and Vuk capture your attention from the beginning of the page. I am a fan of watching relationships build throughout books and I think this was something that we're able to see in KOE. You can tell that both these characters care for each other passionately in their own ways.
This book although manages to hold originality through the first 50%, it falls into similar patterns/plot devices from the authors past books. There are so many similarities to the past books that it really was a turbulent ride to the end of the book. I was expecting some new tropes/devices following the conflict and ending and truly was sad that risk was not taken.
I really had high hopes just because I felt like the chemistry between Vuk and Ayana was there. And it truly had strong potential but their development was not executed in a way that left me satisfied.
It's always great to read Ana Huangs novels and I will always have a special place for her past work.
