Context: A secondary character is drugged and sexually assaulted by multiple male coworkers while at work. The assault is covered up and not believed when reported. The character is later murdered; she is drugged and placed into her bathtub with her iPad plugged into a dodgy charger. She is presumed to have died from suicide by electrocution. The protagonist grieves her death. The protagonist's father has a chronic heart condition which he dies from later in the novel (off-page). Multiple characters are kidnapped and confined to an elevator for their entire timeline. They physically assaulted one another, resulting in bloody injuries. In the end, two of them murder each other (gunshot, stabbed with mirror shards) and another is shot by the police.
