The Second Summer of the Sisterhood
by Ann Brashares
Once more, this book was filled with emotions and character development. This second book of the series was quite different from the previous one. Only two of them left, and the remaining two were spending their summer in their hometown. But that didn't mean that it wasn't as good as the other one.
What I liked about it was that, this time, we were more focused on each girl, which made me understand them a lot better. Each girl had changed from the previous summer they had spent apart, but they grew before our eyes once more. Some, like Bridget, went back to what they were, but others, like Lena, learned from their mistakes and became better versions of themselves.
I can identify myself with each girl, but I think I can relate to Lena and Tibby the most. This is why I was happy that the book was more focused on both of them. I'm shy and like to be left alone, just like them, but I also that sometimes, it is not to my advantage.
I'm glad Bridget went back to what she were, and found out more about her family history. She got some questions that were haunting her answered, and it made her realize that her situation wasn't so bad after all. She does not let what happened to her mother define her anymore. She is conscious of her own limits, but she isn't afraid to push them.
Lena, on the other hand, finally understood that she had to express her emotions more. She is too often in her protecting shell, and it makes her miss out on many great opportunities. Yes, sometimes you can be deceived, but at least you know you have done everything you could to make the best out of a situation. She has learned to grab the opportunities life hands her.
Tibby has finally realized that you should not judge a book by its cover. Sometimes, she judges people too easily, and it makes her miss great opportunities. The people who seemed the coolest aren't necessarily the best ones. Too often people hide behind a mask.
Carmen, finally, has learned that love is hard. Sometimes you love too hard and you just end up messing up the relationship with your actions, even if you had good intentions. Family is always going to be there for you, and I think Carmen finally understood that all her family loves her.
I like how these books, through these four characters, make me learn things about myself. I can see myself through these girls and seeing going through life helps me understand myself more.
I can't wait to read the next one!
