Alien: Into Charybdis by Alex White
4.0
This book was a real struggle to start. I don't think I've ever read anything in present-tense third-person before and it was an adjustment!
Once my brain got past that, the book was full of the elements that make the Alien universe great: from creepy synthetics, to interpersonal issues, to the titular xenomorphs themselves, with an added dose of intergalactic politics and rivalries.
Overall a solid piece of tie-in fiction that does a lot to expand the focus of the universe beyond Weyland-Yurani and the Colonial Marines (although both feature heavily!)
