Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling

Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy bond over their unfortunate names, talk out their daddy issues, and repeatedly rewrite history in a misguided attempt to save

Disappointing. I had not planned on reading this at all (having sworn off any more of the books after the disaster that was the Deathly Hallows' epilogue), but the mention of time travel caught my interest. Unfortunately, I can honestly say that I've read fanworks with better writing, characterization, and creativity than this. The plot was contrived (what kind of potions geniuses are these kids anyway?) and, if you think about it for more than a microsecond, somewhat disturbing (
SpoilerVoldemort and Bellatrix having a child, really?!
), and the characters who weren't forgotten (where was Teddy Lupin???) were flat mockeries of their canon selves. (
SpoilerRon as idiotic comedic relief? Also, would he ever give someone a love potion after what happened to him? I like to think not.
) The only bright point of the play was Scorpius Malfoy; adorable, optimistic, plucky, and loyal, he is almost worth reading the book for.

My recommendation? Read a quality fanfic instead.

Also, why is Moaning Myrtle's full name Myrtle Elizabeth Warren?! Would you name her Myrtle Theresa May? Myrtle Margaret Thatcher? I hope the writers simply don't know anything about U.S. politics, because I nearly just gave up there.
