The Selection by Kiera Cass

5.0

The Selection by Kiera Cass is everywhere on social media and it has been for many years. It was first published in 2012. With the stunning cover, it appeals to all the talented and created Bookstagrammers. The posts they create are out of this world. So as I was doing my own daily posts of book art or blog post links. I would see them and I felt it was a sign. I remember my best friend, who lives in America telling me about when she was reading them, but I thought to myself that sounded all too airy-fairy for my taste.

So this week I have been extra busy and constantly on a PC screen or staring at a phone. I remembered I still have my Audible credits to use. So I bit the bullet and ordered The Selection. I am so glad I did, I was hooked after the first chapter. The audio book was eight hours long and I just had it playing whilst I was working on a blog or sitting relaxing. It's also very hand on the train, and I found the audio book relaxing. Perhaps it was the reader, Amy Rubinate (@amyrubin) dulcet tones. But it was very enjoyable to listen to.

I found the story engaging, fast paced and not at all sweetness and fairytale like. My favourite character, of course, is America. How could it not be? I don't do spoilers in my reviews so I am struggling not to give anything away. So what I will say is she stands for everything I think is right and be it in the make believe world of Illea or our own world. Being kind, caring and knowing what really is important in life, is what counts.

I can now say I am a huge YA Lit fan. After reading a few now, I love how they are so free and creative. Some and even darker and more intense than books for adults. Upon entering a bookstore it would probably be my first port of call. My favourite book of all time is The Book Thief and that too was for #YA.

This book would be suitable for anyone from 13 - 100. I cannot wait to dive into book 2. But for now, I highly recommend to you The Selection By Kiera Cass.
