Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas

4.0

It was so good to be back in Angie Thomas's brain. This book was a quiet, deep-dive of Maverick Carter before there was Starr. It's a bit slice-of-life in way "The Hate U Give" wasn't. While many things happen in this story, there is no shocking moment like Starr watching her best friend murdered in front of her. If you're looking for a coming-of-age story about a black teenager, this is it. I really enjoyed myself, and I'm glad I picked it up.
