Heat Rises by Richard Castle

4.0

Again, I will preface this review by saying that you'll enjoy it more if you're a fan of the show. That said, this book is definitely the best in the series. The plot is more complicated, and the pace is gripping... once I really got into it (around chapter 4), I couldn't put it down. That, and there were a few self-referential moments in this one that really made me giggle. For instance, in one moment Detective Heat is fighting for her life in Central Park, leading a band of armed brigands on a chase after abandoning her car. When she pauses to marshal her options for protection and assistance, only one word comes to her mind:

Castle.

She's referring, of course, to the Belvedere Castle, a huge stone edifice in the midst of the park that does boast a police call-box on its premises. But seriously, book? ;)
