I thoroughly enjoyed this! I thought the pacing was unique and the time jumps kept the story moving quickly I liked that we got these snapshots throughout this family’s life. Because we were with these characters through so much of their life you felt really connected to them and their journey. I think one thing that can make a book really good is when you can be so mad at some of the characters for their choices but also understand them at the same time and that frustration is very powerful. I also learned a lot about this point in history as I didn’t know too much about Korean and Japanese dynamics/politics during and after the war and it was really interesting to learn about in this fictionalized setting because it really humanized it in a way learning about these dynamics in a history class for example couldn’t convey
