Murder Road by Simone St. James

adventurous dark emotional mysterious fast-paced

5.0

This was such a fun supernatural book and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought the story was very gripping from the start, a little spooky and mysterious. The writing and short chapters were wholly bingeable, I definitely need to check out St. James’ other novels!

I very much liked all the characters in this book. Kudos to the author for not making the MCs annoying or taking stupid actions. April and Eddy were just married and on their way to a honeymoon when they took a wrong turn. Helping a bleeding hitchhiker that dies on the way to the hospital, making them the murder suspects. The build up of the Lost Girl legend and the unsolved murders was so well done and kept my attention to the very last page. The side characters were all a fantastic addition - Rose, the owner of the local bed-and-breakfast where April and Eddy were staying, was a bit of a motherly figure. The Snell sisters added that investigative angle I just love. The girls were a little kooky with their conspiracies but also had a lot of knowledge the couple was able to use to help solving the murders. I was a big fan, would totally read another story about them!

The story kept revealing layers and layers of intrigue that kept me glued to the page, it was interesting and smart. I loved the 90s setting and it worked so well to set the vibe and atmosphere. Overall, I went in almost blind and couldn’t be happier about it!!
