River of Shadows
by Karina Halle
When Hanna Heikkinen travels to Finland to attend her father's funeral, something seems off. It starts when she's met unexpectedly at the airport by her father's strange friend. She then finds out her father's body is missing and knows something is going on. When her father's apprentice, Rasmus, informs her that her father isn't really dead and she can save him by going to the Realm of the Dead, she must decide if he can be trusted. Determined to do whatever to save him, she heads to the Realm of the Dead with Rasmus.
I really enjoyed this book (but I love just about everything Karina Halle writes lol). River of Shadows is based on Finnish mythology which I thought was unique! The world building was well done and I liked learning about Tuonela. This book was fast paced and I devoured it. I loved Tuoni. He may be the God of Death but I think Karina did an amazing job humanizing him. Hanna's friendship with Lovia and Bell was great! That cliffhanger was killer though.
Even though I'm just now writing this review, I read River of Shadows and Crown of Crimson last year and this series is one of my favorites!
