Well, this book was hundreds of pages longer than it should have been. Listen, I’m not a Chaol hater. At all. He’s fine. I feel bad for him more than anything but this was simply too many pages of his wallowing. I like Yrene for the most part but feel like the way in which she was portrayed as LIGHT and GOOD was such a counter to Celaena/Aelin in Chaol’s mind (“you can’t pick and choose which parts of her to love) that I had a hard time being excited for their love. I really liked Sartaq and wish we had more chapters with his adventures with or without Nesryn. I saw the “big reveal” coming when I was reading Empire of Storms. SJM has a tendency to repeat things A LOT to pound us over the head so we get it which then makes for no reveal at all. The times in which the question, “IS MAEVE VALG?!?!” Came up in EoS made me think oh okay, so Maeve is for sure valg. Same thing with Duva in ToD. I knew something would come around and make her important because of the constant way she was described and how SWEET she is, etc. Meh. It was fine. I liked the desert setting, I liked seeing Falkan (though admittedly for a second I was like wait who is this guy) I like Sartaq and his choices but overall it was…just fine. I’m excited to get back in and start KoA but I wish I had done the tandem read for ToD because boy did that take a while to get a little teeny bit of needed info.
