The Appeal by Janice Hallett

3.5 stars. Some spoilers below.

My first book in 2023. Not mad that I started the year off with this one.

The book’s formatting is strictly emails, texts, letters, newspaper clippings, etc; which personally I like. However, the only flaw in my opinion with the author using this type of format is that there are A LOT of characters to keep up with and sometimes it was hard to realize who was important/not so important. I liked the way the law students trying to solve the case were part of the story. I suspected part of the story (Poppy actually never being sick) pretty early on, but that didn’t effect the way I feel about the book.

The character Isabel aka ‘Issy’, phewy I could NOT stand her, and if that was the author’s intention while writing this character, kudos to her. She reminded me of Molly in the book The Maid by Nita Prose, only Issy was 100000x worse. Overall, there were parts that were confusing and explanations that I had to re-read several times because they seemed almost as if they were pulled from thin air. The author did tie together all of the pieces of the story by the end, which I appreciated.
