All the White Spaces by Ally Wilkes
In ALL THE WHITE SPACES, Ally Wilkes executed a **fantastic** sense of place-- I felt like I was in Antarctica right along with everyone else. The writing was a bit drawn out (the novel would have had more suspense if it had been ~80 pages shorter), and I (personally!) was not a huge fan of how Wilkes makes the "evil entity" ~mysterious and unknown~ instead of offering concrete details.
That said, ALL THE WHITE SPACES is still among my favorite 2022 horror releases-- I enjoyed the storytelling, and Wilkes deserves credit for creating a cast of complicated characters, including Jonathan (Wilkes emphasizes his transness and its relevance to the story, but this is very much not "trans horror" and is free of TERFs or transphobes).
Now I'm off to look at Antarctica on Google Maps...
