The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
3.0

It is very detailed and heavy on world building, which is why I like it. But the plotting and action just drags throughout the entire narrative. The formal language that most of the characters use in conversing with each other, I feel, bogs down character interactions, which is were most of the action takes place. The unknown keeps the reader going forward, but the pay off is less than anticipated. I almost ground to a halt in the last 150 pages, I was getting bored. *Spoiler* The final assassination attempt, although unexpected, is resolved in a paragraph, and the rest is just a set of trial/interrogations to reveal all the remaining mysteries. I finished the book mostly because it was the last one I needed to finish my 2015 reading challenge. Otherwise, I would have left it sitting for longer to get something more exciting through my system.
