Rough Contact by Beth Bolden
5.0

This is probably the longest book I’ve read in a long time, but it felt like it was over way too soon. I was addicted, and completely invested, by the end of the prologue.

Man, Neal was dealt a horrible hand. One. Missed. Kick. That’s all it took to change his life, but what if it wasn’t for the worst? Before that can be addressed, he has to pull his head out of the sand and get his act together. Meeting Jamie may just be the kick in the pants he needed.

Jamie is adorable. How could you not wanna be friends with him? I could easily be friends with him. I think he’s just what Neal needs in a true partner. I enjoyed watching them tip toe around each other and their attraction. It was kind of comical, kind of frustrating. This book was hovering on the slow burn train, but I feel like it juuuust squeaks by because of how long the book is. It was a delicious tease, too. So worth the wait. The story was captivating enough that I didn’t even realize it was toying with being a slow burn. That’s the ONLY way it should be done. Kudos, Beth Bolden. You did it right! Let me tell you, it was pretty steamy once the wait was over.

This was a well written story. I’ve mentioned the length a couple of times, BUT I’d read Beth Bolden’s books no matter if they were 200 pages, or 500. I’d read them because her writing is really good. It draws you in, makes you fall in love with the characters, and has you pulling up a chair because you aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The characters were engaging and well developed. Even at their grumpiest, they were likable. Shane was pretty much the villain of this story, but he wasn’t so cut and dry. He had decent qualities to him, that we caught glimpses of. He just needs to grow up and fix his mistakes before they ruin his life. I even find myself hoping he does. Quality writing folks. It was good to see familiar faces again, and speaking of familiar faces... I really want Chase to get his own story. Cough, cough. (Taps mic) Beth Bolden, are you reading this? Chase is adorable, and a very good person. He needs someone to love, don’t you agree?
