This was a difficult book to read. At times, I had to put it down to distract my brain. Reading a story from the point of view of a 15 year old who falls in love with her teacher, 30 years older, so blatant, it’s overwhelming whilst engrossing. You’re patiently waiting for Vanessa to see through the manipulation, that at times you hate her for not seeing what is clearly a very serious problem. I also recognize that I can’t understand what it’s like to be in her position at all. I hate that this is even a story that is constantly being repeated to young girls and boys, but I hope this book can help those in a similar space find the courage to work through their trauma. The story was so well written you might think it’s a true story, nonetheless, I think I have to rate it 5/5. Would I recommend it to anyone, no. But it’s a story that needed to be told. You have to go into it knowing what you’re up against and if you can handle it.
