mmm can’t really rate/review this as i would a normal book bc it’s literally not a normal book
really sad as ofc u spend the whole book knowing what’s going to happen. Anne feels so alive in these pages, and the diary stops so suddenly. She talks so much about what she’s going to do when she leaves the annex it’s awful.
I read the definitive edition so it’s got a lot of things in it that were edited out of the original publishing which was really interesting. I just kept imagining Otto reading this for the first time, i can’t even comprehend what that would have been like; how heartbreaking. understand why he cut everything he did but i’m thankful it was rereleased, as those really raw moments of Anne’s anger/ her growing really help capture how it would have been growing up the way she did.
crazy historical artefact. It’s a small comfort that now she lives on forever but a comfort it still is.
“But where there’s hope, there’s life.”
