Spark of the Resistance by Justina Ireland

5.0

For the Star Wars fans in your household... We actually enjoy reading Star Wars a bit more than watching it on screen, especially when they get writers like Ireland to write in the universe.

This is a tale of Rey, Poe and Rose on the Millennium Falcon and how they liberate a rabbit-like species called the Zixon, and in the process strike a blow against the First Order.

They stop a plot by First Order Commander Branwayne Spiftz to steal a "sound" weapon that controls the Zixon, turning them into mindless beings who take orders and will do whatever the person holding the weapon tells them to do.

It helps that there's a spy on Spiftz's ship, Professor Glenna Kip, who it turns out was one of the scientists who developed the weapon for the Empire in underground labs. Now her guilt propels her to try to get the weapon before Spiftz can use it on the Zixon.

The story has a hopeful ending, with the Resistance making a base on Minfar.
