I love this series and was so impatiently waiting for this book that I was a little upset when I didn't win the giveaway for it here recently, but fortunately I was provided an ARC by the publisher via Netgalley. Oh how happy that made me...

This was a great installment to the Immortal Guardians series. We begin right where we left off with the last book with Seth attacking Zach and then leaving. Then the Others show up. Very bad for Zach. These Others are a twisted lot to be sure. We've already seen their punishment to him when all he did was tell Seth about his phone and his people trying to call him. This time around they are relentless in their torture of him...for months. The only thing that helps him deal with the constant pain is him dropping in on Lisette's mind. Then all of a sudden he quite literally drops in on her house. And thus begins their torrid love affair. There really was no romance to their relationship or wooing of any kind. They were simply drawn to one another and it became what it was. Which was a little disappointing to me...I like the wooing. Plus considering how little they knew about the other and how short of time they knew the other, falling in LOVE with each other happened way too pretty damn fast. While Lisette is trying to hide her relationship with Zach, Seth is working on figuring out who the traitor is. Left with no other explanation and Lisette's suspicious behavior, he confronts her. As she is guilty of betraying him by being with Zach when he told her to stay away, she assumes that's why he's there to kill her. When she won't admit her crime he delves into her mind and finds out what she was really up to. He takes it pretty well considering. The one who doesn't take Seth's accusation well is Zach. When something happens to Lisette, he makes quite the entrance at David's house. It was kind of nice to see Roland (whom I love the most) take charge of all the others and have them listen to him. Most surprising though was when he gave them his cell number. Wow. I wonder if he's going to change it once things calm down.... At some point Ami finally goes into labor and the whole thing is quite nerve wracking for all the immortals and their seconds. Even for days afterwards. Now that their relationship is out in the open, Zach hunts with Lisette and even goes out of his way to help Seth (which Seth desperately needed). He's actually become quite the asset I think. Eventually, thanks to Zach, they were able to find the base of their newest enemy. Which as of yet has been the most formidable in power and brains. And soon the counterattack begins. And it was pretty awesome. Even better that now we know who the enemy truly is. ...And I knew it the whole time!!

Zach was constantly surprising me. He put it very well when he described himself as an enigma to the immortals. It's kind of amazing to see how much he had changed just because he was with Lisette. So much so that him and Seth were getting on friendly terms. Which is good, because apparently they were friends before Seth's defection. All in all I really enjoyed his character.

We get a lot of Seth in this book (which is awesome)and he has gone thru the ringer in this book. Not only did he accuse the wrong person twice, but doesn't let himself sleep for months. And he's always giving his energy away. And he berates himself again for the loss of life in that last battle. The sweetest thing though, was that no matter what he did, all of his guardians still love him. Zach was right when he said Seth was the luckiest bastard on the planet.

One thing that kind of bugs me is that Seth tells Lisette that if she can make her barriers strong enough, then he will tell her all that she wants to know about what him and Zach are. To me, that seems totally unfair. Just because she's in a relationship with Zach shouldn't mean that she should know more than the others about their leader. Especially considering there are so many others so much other than her. So really, I hope that when it comes to it, Seth will simply let them all know.

I have no idea who the next book is going to center around...and there really weren't any good clues. But I wonder if it's going to be the new guy, Aidan. Whoever it is, I can't wait to see what happens next when we go after the crazy bad guy.
